Living Life As It Is -- Not As I Wish It Would Be

As a child my parents always hoped for a better future, one that would give them freedom, and a better lifestyle for their children with the freedom they so desired for themselves.

I had to leave my country of birth, Cuba, at the age of eight because my parents feared the repression of the existing government and hoped for a better future. It was a time of much uncertainty, fear, and courage for my parents having to leave all that they knew for a new beginning in the other side of the world, Madrid, Spain, where we lived for two years before getting a visa to the U.S.

During this early part of my life I learned to let go of what's known, trust that I'm always supported wherever I am, that family and home is wherever I am. To leave everything I knew became something natural for me. I learned how to detach from that which I thought was mine. Also, leave "my family" of origin not knowing if I'd ever see them again to discover that family is everywhere. Family is not just those of blood, but it's also those that welcome you in their home as their own family too.

Since childhood my horizons expanded. I had no place to call my country, and I began to see life as it was, not as I wished it would be. I surrendered to where my parents decided for us to live, and noticed how life would support us wherever we where living at the moment. A beautiful family waited for us in Madrid taking us in their home until we rented our own. The church provided clothing and life began to unfold with much support in a far away land that I then called home.

All these experiences led me to feel certain that no matter where I went life would support me in the most amazing ways, way beyond my expectations. I now find myself naturally living life as it is, and knowing with excitement that life always shows me clearly the way. I find that there's a natural order in life's movement. I always want to see the Truth of life's expression in this moment, and not what I wish it would be.

I learned to see reality without the illusions of wishful thinking, an apparent world of thoughts and beliefs. Seeing life as it is, and not what I wish it to be is what I call being at home with peace.
